SKAL India inaugurates second club in Mumbai

The second club in Mumbai started with 35 members. 

MUMBAI, INDIA: Skal International Mumbai South was inaugurated on Friday 22nd February 2019 at the ITC Maratha hotel, Mumbai International Airport. The second club in Mumbai started with 35 members. 

On this auspicious occasion, Ranjini Nambiar, President, Skal International India, Carl Vaz, 1st Vice President and Shekhar Divadkar, Secretary graced the occasion along with distinguished Membre d’Honneur Jason Samuel and Arun Raghavan Secretary of the Skal Asian Area. 

Mr Raghavan on behalf of the Asian Board of Skal International joined the accompanying distinguished guests in a traditional lamp lighting ceremony to signify the opening of the new club and addressed the members referring to the World of Skal, reminding all members about the upcoming Asia Area Congress in Bangalore in June 2019 and the Skal World Congress taking place in Miami, USA in September 2019. 

Including VIP guests and spouses 52 people were in attendance for an exceptional cocktail with the inauguration formalities taking place in the Ballroom followed by dinner in the sparklingly lit gardens adjoining the hall. 

Speaking at the event, Ranjini Nambiar, Skal International India President said, “ Growth of Skal India in the last six months has been phenomenal, we have opened 3 Clubs taking the count to 14 Clubs with 1183 Members. Our vision was 20 Clubs by Year 2020, looks like we have to raise our bar higher to reach out to potential members across the length & breadth of this vast country”.

The Skal Asian Area takes place in Bangalore, India 27-29 June 2019 and all Skal members are invited to join.

Andrew J Wood was born in Yorkshire England, he is a former hotelier, Skalleague and travel writer. Andrew has 48 years of hospitality and travel experience. Educated at Batley Grammar School and a hotel graduate of Napier University, Edinburgh. Andrew started his career in London, working with various hotels. His first posting overseas was with Hilton International, in Paris, and he later arrived in Asia in 1991 on Bangkok with his appointment as Director of Marketing at the Shangri-La Hotel and has remained in Thailand ever since. Andrew has also worked with the Royal Garden Resort Group now Anantara (Vice President) and the Landmark Group of Hotels (Vice President of Sales and Marketing). Latterly he has been the General Manager at the Royal Cliff Group of Hotels in Pattaya and the Chaophya Park Hotel Bangkok & Resorts.

A past board member and Director of Skål International (SI), a former National President with SI Thailand and a two time past President of the Bangkok Club. Andrew is the former President of Skål Asia. In 2019, Andrew was awarded SKÅL’s highest award the distinction of Membre D’Honneur.

He is a regular guest lecturer at various Universities in Asia.
