THAI increases passenger screening procedures for flights from Cambodia

THAI has strict preventive measures against the spread of Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) that are based on international standards.

Following news that a passenger who was on board the Westerdam cruise ship that docked in Sihanoukville, Cambodia has contracted the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) has increased passenger screening procedures for flights from Cambodia.

Mr. Sumeth Damrongchaitham, THAI President, said that the Ministry of Public Health had prohibited foreign passengers on board the Westerdam cruise ship from entering Thailand for a quarantine period of 14 days that began on 14 February 2020. Out of concern for air transportation safety, Mr. Saksayam Chidchob, Transport Minister, has ordered that all air transportation organizations under the Ministry of Transport prepare to screen Thai passengers who traveled on the Westerdam cruise ship and require entry into Thailand.

THAI has strict preventive measures against the spread of Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) that are based on international standards and are in adherence with the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO), International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Ministry of Public Health, and The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT).  THAI has increased screening procedures for Thai passengers who disembarked from the Westerdam cruise ship and transfer to a THAI flight from Phnom Penh, Cambodia to Suvarnabhumi Airport.  THAI has increased passenger screen procedures on flights from Phnom Penh-Bangkok from today until 29 February 2020, as follows:

  1. Arrange a special team to travel roundtrip on the route Phnom Penh-Bangkok to observe symptoms and screen passengers on the flights
  2. Deny boarding if a passenger exhibits symptoms or may be a potential disease carrier.
  3. Arrange a special seat for Thai passengers who disembarked from the Westerdam cruise ship, quarantined from other passengers.
  4. Once the flight has returned from the destination of origin, the aircraft must be disinfected in the passenger cabin, cockpit, and 36 touch points must be undergo deep cleaning.

THAI reassures passengers of its strict preventive measures to safeguard against the spread of the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), which THAI continues to closely monitor.  THAI also thanks organizations that provided cooperation and information in order to safeguard against the spread of the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), such as the Ministry of Public Health, The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), the Airports of Thailand (AOT), and the Immigration Bureau.
